INTERACTIVE DEVELOPMENT SAMPLES

Video Tour of Visual Synthesis Maps

  • Project: Visual Synthesis Maps
  • Client: Macmillan Learning
  • Details: The Visual Synthesis Maps use an intuitive, Google Maps-like interface to transform static textbook figures into immersive environments. The Maps unveil the inner workings of cells, ecosystems, and more through a combination of eye-catching art, digital micrograph imagery, as well as narrated animations and simulations.
  • Notes: The video tour* provides a brief glimpse at several Visual Synthesis Maps, designed and developed between 2018–2022, which cover topics in biology ranging from evolution to protein synthesis. (*Please contact me for a demo of the actual interactives, which are only accessible behind a paywall.)
  • Roles: Project management, creative concepting, storyboarding, content editing, and talent coordination

Timeline Game

  • Project: Biology Timeline Game
  • Client: Macmillan Learning
  • Details: An author/instructor commissioned a set of activities, inspired by the NYT's popular "Flashback" game, to foster engagement. The games test biology students' knowledge of important processes and events in the timeline of the history of life on Earth.
  • Roles: Project management and activity development in Articulate Storyline

Skills Primer Tutorials

  • Project: Skills Primer Tutorials
  • Client: Macmillan Learning
  • Details: The Skills Primers offer biology students "refreshers" on key concepts as well as just-in-time lessons on important topics, such as understanding and using generative AI for coursework and research.
  • Roles: Project management and activity development in Articulate Rise and Storyline

Bio 101 Activities

  • Project: Bio 101 Activities
  • Client: Macmillan Learning
  • Details: Freshmen biology students often struggle to remember concepts from their high school biology classes. So, the Bio 101 Activities (like this one about identifying animal cell structures and their functions) quiz students' knowledge about key biology topics in a low-stakes, game-like interface, where wrong answers aren't penalized, and feedback/reinforcement is provided along the way.
  • Roles: Project management, content editing, and talent coordination

ANIMATION/VIDEO SAMPLES

"Journey Through the Human Kidney" - 3D Animation

  • Project: Journey Through the Human Kidney
  • Client: Macmillan Learning
  • Details: This hyper-realistic, 3-minute animation uses custom 3D imagery, sound effects, title graphics, and narration to take college biology students on an engaging, log flume-like ride through the human kidney.
  • Roles: Project management, creative conceptualization, storyboarding/script editing, audio editing, and talent coordination

"CRISPR" - 2D Animation

  • Project: Biology 2D Animations
  • Client: Macmillan Learning
  • Details: The 2D Animations use a simple, slideshow-like layout, animated figures, and friendly narration to make key biological concepts easy to understand for non-majors biology students (i.e., students who are enrolled in biology courses as a general college requirement). This particular animation helps students understand a relatively new gene-editing process, called "CRISPR."
  • Roles: Project management, creative conceptualization, scriptwriting/storyboarding, and talent coordination

AUDIO/PODCASTS

Case Study Podcasts

  • Project: Case Study Podcasts
  • Client: Macmillan Learning
  • Details: This new podcast series, which accompanies eight case studies in the textbook Biology: How Life Works, features interviews with exceptional scientists—with a particular focus on female and minority researchers, whose voices and contributions to the world of science have been overlooked too often.
  • Roles: Project management, production, talent coordination, and audio editing
